Here for a ~Buy it Now~ is a hauntingly beautiful, and most intriguing work of art, to include something comical about the children depicted... This has to be the most difficult listing for me to categorize.  Measuring approximately 4-7/16" in diameter, this stunning little masterpiece has an interesting story, an enigma to say the least.
Unfortunately, there is no provenance for this ~Lost Art~ other than what was mentioned to me years ago and that was this piece came from Austria, circa early 1900's. In addition, this piece was displayed at an independently owned drugstore with no intentions to sell. Perhaps some form of advertising for something they carried in their store?
It was also mentioned to me that this raised relief dish/plate is bronze. I, am not an expert in metal ware so I cannot claim it to be. What I do know, is that, it is not attracted to a magnet and is extremely heavy for a small dish, weighing at approximately 274.9 grams as shown in (1) image. There is no mark that I can find.
The scenery depicts different species of plants and foliage that I am unfamiliar with. There are (2) children. The girl holding a mortar & pestle with her (rear end exposed!) concocting something with an offensive, putrid smell, as the boy wearing only a waist cloth, is holding in one hand, a handkerchief covering his nose due to the terrible smell emitting from her concoction, while the other hand is holding a smoking pipe and a single bird on a branch witnessing the whole event! I ask myself, are these really children?
Nevertheless, an uncommon and splendid gift for a Pharamcist,  Herbalist, Botanist or a Tobacciana aficionado...
In ~wonderful antique condition with the exception of a small amount of bluish-green verdigris in the background, located behind the little boy's head as shown in images. I will not attempt to clean it, that will be left for the knowledgeable purchaser!  Number #9 image (back of plate) reveals exposed yellow tone colored metal in a few places.
